Mrs. Webber's Class
Week of 9/7/10-9/10/10
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! We had an exciting and busy first week of school. We practiced our daily routines and procedures, set goals for the school year, and engaged in lots of fun science activities. This week, in addition to finishing up our beginning of the year assessments, we will begin our normal weekly schedule for most subjects. Reading homework and spelling tests begin this week. Your child will come home with a book bag and reading card on Tuesday. All students in 2nd and 3rd grade are required to read for 20 minutes each night. For each night they read, they color in a base on the reading card. Also, the back of the card asks for the names of books your child read, and a parent signature. Please have your child bring the book bag and signed card to school on Fridays. If your child finishes the books before Friday and is ready for a SRC test, just bring the bag in and we'll choose new books to go home that day. Please call or e-mail me if you have any questions at all! Here is a look at our upcoming week:
Grade 2 Reading: character and setting
Grade 3 Reading: story structure (characters, setting, and plot)
Writing (Grade 2): personal narratives
Math (Grade 2): fact families, writing numbers to 100, doubles facts, one more and one less, left and right
Science/Social Studies: Pebbles, Sand & Silt (observing & describing rocks, sorting rocks by their properties)
Spelling: Spelling lists come home on Mondays (Tuesday this week) and tests are on Fridays
Homework: 2nd and 3rd graders are required to read for 20 minutes each night. In addition, third graders often have math homework for Mrs. Lull. Book buddy bags come home on Mondays and should be returned on Fridays. Please fill out the reading log and include a parent signature so your child can earn popcorn on Fridays.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
9/22/10: Late Start Day (10:45) and Back to School Night at 5:30
9/27/10: School Pictures
